A truly local family business

2nd September 2014

In 1977, Mr Graham Hughes (Managing Director) left full time education where he was schooling at Rock Ferry High School for Boys and previous to that Ionic Street School. Brought up in Rock Ferry in a large family unit he was one of six children, the second eldest.

From an early age he had many interests in making things with his hands, in particular building things, and never really paid attention to his schooling days, he would have rather been working with local builders carrying ladders, carrying the tool bags and even attempting to copy building work as he watched what the adult men did, as he watched them while walking to school.

Through some years after leaving school, (1977) he initially became an apprentice roofer with a very well-known roofing company known as J O’Grady roofing specialist based in New Chester Road, Rock Ferry at the age of 16years.

Following his completed apprenticeship he moved on to Pendle Borough Council in Lancashire in which he served the local authority for some three years in a roofing profession, before becoming overall supervisor of the team of staff employed within the construction department.

His taste for observing quality and workmanship of others carrying out building works proved for him in later years to lead many roles in various organisations employed within the management sector overseeing many tradesmen carrying out their tasks in hand whether directly employed or indirectly employed by those organisations.

After the birth of his first daughter 1n 1989 he made the decision to return to education while being employed in the capacity of Clerk of Works within the social housing sectors, in particular to the Hamilton Quarter of Birkenhead “Living over the Shops Projects”.

He studied for a further seven years while being employed where he gained two Diplomas in Construction and also Bachelor of Science Degree in Construction Management along with many memberships of organisation such as Institute of Clerks of Works, Society of Surveyors, Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors and many more.

In 2004, Graham made the decision to set up his own building company, with very limited cash resources and little savings, Tidysite Building and Construction Services was formed employing only himself, with the hope and faith that his own knowledge from hands on workmanship and management roles he served as in previous employments would entail him to succeed in his own venture.

With no bank loans, no service loans and no government backed loans his dreams of offering a unique quality service to clients across Merseyside, Cheshire and Lancashire were vastly becoming real.

His decision came after many years of experience of listening to clients of other builders at the time, complaining about shoddy workmanship and poor quality of services offered by those builders, and in many circumstances builders not returning to their own faulty works since being paid by their clients offering no care of services at all.

Graham is a proud man, a good man, and truly an honest man, who serves his employees and clients with courtesy and honestly, his attitude to life is simple.

“None of us are better than anyone, we are all the same, we are just more fortunate than others and we should all be true to one another”, we can all fall down a ladder in life And pick ourselves up, but at any one moment we can fall again so be thankful for what we have. He has learnt that his differences should make no difference.

Ten years later, now based (since 2011) at The John laird centre, Park Road North, Birkenhead, Wirral.

Employing a number of staff and maintaining excellent quality services and dedication to all our clients across Merseyside, Cheshire, Lancashire and afar.

Accredited by Which? Consumers, we believe this is as a result of his commitment and loyalty as a reputable builder in offering all his clients the best possible service with the quality and standard of workmanship expected by all.

A loving father to all his five children ranging from 25 years to only two years his dedication to Tidysite Building and Construction Services continues, in the hope, that one day his children will take over the business and continue its success for many years to come.

Certainly a honest, caring, loyal and considerate builder, who truly wears his heart on his sleeve, having used this company on many occasions to carry out various building works to our home, and knowing that our family and friends have also used them, we are happy to recommend them to any potential new clients who are considering having any work carried out to their homes. The politeness you will receive from your initial call to their offices, to a visit from Mr Hughes and the work starting to commence through to completion is second to none, no surprise when recently heard that they were recently accredited by WHICH? trusted trader, well deserved to such an inspiring company who offer a great service throughout.

Thank you to all concerned for carrying out such a wonderful job on our home, a truly honest reliable builder that anyone can trust, Mr Hughes promised a service before, during and on completion of the works and delivered more than our expectations. From the first time of visit to our home right through to the end of the job this company showed great consideration all the office staff and the men on the ground so to speak were a pleasure to have known.
Having employed other builders in the past over the years to carry out various jobs on our home and at times resulting in great disappointment we can honestly recommend Tidysite Builders to anyone, knowing you will receive a honest reliable service. from Mr Hughes.
